What types of laser treatments will give me smoother, healthier skin with no downtime?

Q: What types of laser treatments will give me smoother, healthier skin with no downtime? A: Having laser facials on a regular basis is the best thing you can do to slow down the aging process, reverse sun damage and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion, says facial plastic surgeon Dr. Myra Danish. “In our office we use the Cutera Laser Genesis to smooth the skin, shrink the pores, even out pigmentation and redness, diminish fine line wrinkles and regenerate collagen. It also kills bacteria to help reduce acne. The Cutera Excel V laser has a component for treating vascular skin conditions such as spider veins and rosacea, and a component to correct pigmentation, age spots, and brown spots.” Noninvasive laser treatments can be done in less than an hour, with minimal discomfort and no downtime. “We customize the laser treatment based on the patient’s skin during their monthly or recurring sessions,” Dr. Danish says. “Laser facials are cost effective, provide outstanding results, and are ideal for patients who can’t take time off for a long...

My lower face and neck is starting to look saggy. Is there an effective treatment that doesn’t require a lengthy recovery?

Q: My lower face and neck is starting to look saggy. Is there an effective treatment that doesn’t require a lengthy recovery? A: For patients who are noticing loose skin in the neck and jawline, and jowls that are beginning to form, the ideal remedy is a minilift, says facial plastic surgeon Dr. Myra Danish. “The minilift is a one-hour surgery that doesn’t require general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is required and patients are made more comfortable with mild oral sedation. In one-hour, I am able tighten the muscles and remove excess skin to give you a sharp jawline and a smooth neck. “This is an extremely popular procedure as it is far less invasive than a facelift; patients go home the same day. The downtime is about a week with some bruising and swelling that can easily be disguised with your hair and a scarf. Most patients can go about their daily activities because the discomfort is minimal.” Each person’s facial anatomy and degree of aging differ. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Danish to learn the best treatment options to restore your natural...

Q: What can be done to rejuvenate my dull complexion? A: Pregnancy can take its toll on the skin. For new moms who are breastfeeding, facial plastic surgeon Dr. Myra Danish takes a conservative approach and recommends a series of glycolic peels and laser photo facials. “The peel gently exfoliates and the laser photo facial works on the dermis to help with large pores, discoloration, and collagen regeneration to give the skin a nice texture and glow,” Dr. Danish says. “The IPL laser is very effective for treating hyperpigmentation or dark spots, and our vascular lasers remove broken capillaries on the face. All of these laser treatments can be combined in one convenient...

Danish and Seger take Teen Dale Carnegie Program to Oakland County Children’s Village with great success!

A rock legend is helping bring needed life skills to troubled youth in Oakland County. Bob Seger funded the Dale Carnegie Teen Program at Children’s Village for the month of July. “It’s an honor to be a small part of bringing this Dale Carnegie Workshop to Children’s Village,” said Bob and Nita Seger in a statement. “Our son is taking the course and we saw the benefits after the first class.” The Dale Carnegie Teen Program helps to teach valuable life skills to disadvantaged youth in communities around the world. The three main focuses of the program are building self-confidence and maintaining a positive attitude, learning how to manage stress and focus in times of challenge and building interpersonal skills. Effective attitude management along with teamwork and leadership skills are also taught during the program. Children’s Village is a residential facility for children and youth who are in need of out-of-home services. They are placed in the home by court order or by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Since 1975, the facility has provided residential care and comprehensive treatment services for youth and their families. Children’s Village is a division of Oakland County’s Department of Health and Human Services Department. Aaron Danish, Brother Rice High School student and volunteer graduate assistant at Children’s Village, took the course and recognized the importance of the skills he learned. Danish suggested the idea of bringing the program to Children’s Village to his mother Dr. Myra Danish, a Children’s Village Foundation board member. Mother and son approached the Seger family for their support of this program. According to Dr. Danish,...

What types of lasers can improve my complexion?

Q: What types of lasers can improve my complexion? A: Not as popular as it once was, C02 laser resurfacing removes the top layers of skin and requires a prolonged recovery period with crusting and redness. If you are a suitable candidate the CO2 laser produces good results, but most people are not willing to undergo the lengthy recovery, says facial cosmetic surgeon Dr. Myra Danish, M.D., F.A.C.S. “Today, the most popular laser treatments are those that have minimal to no downtime and a low risk of side effects or skin irritation. The laser photo facials have no downtime and are able to regenerate collagen, minimize fine lines, improve acne by killing bacteria in the skin, and help with discoloration, including redness. Your complexion will improve overall with a series of treatments,” Dr. Danish explains. “The vascular laser helps to eliminate broken blood vessels, with a healing period entailing a little bruising. Laser hair removal has made remarkable advances as far as being able to achieve permanent hair removal that is quick and essentially painless. “While all of these laser modalities require several treatments, they provide outstanding results and are ideal for patients who cannot afford to take time off for an extended period.” Dr. Danish recommends a facial analysis and consultation to determine the treatment options that will help her patients look younger and fresher and will give them the very best...
