Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing is performed to remove the top layers of skin and obtain new skin growth to address wrinkles, pigmentation and improve skin texture.

Chemical peels are performed to rejuvenate the underlying skin in patients in whom facial aging, sun exposure, or cigarette smoking have all contributed to pigmentation, fine wrinkles, uneven tone, and texture changes of the skin. These procedures take approximately 30 minutes to perform using a variety of different chemical products.

Our skin is constantly under stress from aging and decreased collagen production, sun and its harmful UV rays as well as lifestyle factors like smoking, stress, poor nutrition and insufficient sleep. Skin resurfacing is a way to turn back time on your face and chest. There are several types of skin resurfacing which you’ll discuss during your consultation with Dr. Danish.

Chemical peels can also be performed to the neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands and upper back regions which can also be affected by significant sun exposure. Patients may realistically expect that the quality of their skin will improve, that the tone and texture, and pigmentation will become more even, and that they will have softer, smoother skin as a result of the chemical peel.

The typical recovery for a patient undergoing a deep chemical peel is approximately 7 to 10 days, and patients may return to normal physical activities with no limitations within 2 weeks.

What to Expect

CO2 laser resurfacing is performed for very severe cases of aged skin and sun damage and requires a prolonged recovery of several weeks. Although still performed by Dr. Myra Danish in Troy, Michigan, this procedure is not as popular because of the downtime. CO2 laser resurfacing is performed in the operating room with anesthesia and takes less than an hour. The patient goes home the same day but then requires judicious after care and 4-6 weeks of recovery. More of our patients opt for less aggressive ways of improving their skin. Most popular are the laser facials which do not damage the surface skin. Dermabrasion is performed by Dr. Myra Danish in her Metro Detroit area office which again is a more aggressive and ablative way of removing the top layers of skin for wrinkles, pigmentation and improving skin texture. Dermabrasion requires a few weeks recovery and then results in smoother skin. It takes less than an hour to perform with some after care including cleansing and applying vaseline type product.
